Delete your account.

Want to delete your Grudget account and all associated data? You can do it from inside the app, or by emailing Em directly. Both options are explained below.

§ 01

Delete from inside the app

The fastest way to delete your Grudget account is from within the app itself. The option is available to all users, free or paid, on iOS and Android.

Steps

You'll be signed out as soon as the request is submitted. Your account, all your financial data, and any shared splits you've set up will be queued for permanent deletion (see the timeline below).

Request deletion by email

If you can't access the app for any reason — for example, if you've already uninstalled it — you can request account deletion by email instead.

How to request

Em will reply within 10 business days to confirm the deletion has been processed. No password recovery, no security quiz, no upselling on the way out. Just done.

§ 03

What gets deleted

When your account is deleted, the following is permanently removed:

Account & profile
Email address, display name, hashed password, avatar choice, pay day settings, expected income, currency preferences.
Financial data
All budgets, transactions, splits, loans, staggered payments, direct debits, and any history you've logged in the app.
Split bill records
Any splits you initiated are removed. Splits where you were a participant are anonymised so the other party still has their own record.
Subscription data
Your active subscription is cancelled. Any billing details held by RevenueCat or the app store are processed by them according to their own terms.
§ 04

What we keep, and why

In rare cases, we may retain a small amount of data after account deletion. Specifically:

Encrypted backups
Your data may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days after deletion, after which it is permanently purged.
Anonymised analytics
Aggregated, fully anonymised data that cannot be linked back to you (such as "X users opened the app this week") may be retained indefinitely for service improvement purposes.
Legal records
Where Australian or other applicable law requires us to retain certain records (such as financial transaction logs related to subscription payments), we may keep those for the legally required period only.
§ 05

Deletion timeline

Here's exactly what happens, and when, after you request deletion:

Immediately
You're signed out. Your account is marked for deletion. You can no longer log in.
Within 10 business days
If you requested deletion by email, Em replies to confirm the deletion has been processed.
Within 30 days
Your account, profile, and all live financial data is permanently deleted from our active database.
Within 90 days
Encrypted backups containing your data are purged. After this point, no recoverable copy of your data exists.
